HELPING OTHERS IN OUR COMMUNITY

kelowna concerts & events 2019

Today we ask you to join us in contributing whatever way you can.

We all know many people who have been affected and will need help today and in the coming weeks, months and maybe years.

It all starts here. And it starts now, with you, us, and anyone who is in a position to help ☺

Here are some ways in Kelowna you can help today.

Something for our nurses, doctors and health care professional – Love for Local is a Go Fund Me set up by our friends Britt and Dani whose goal is to rally around those on the frontlines while also supporting local businesses.

Every donation to their Go Fund Me Page will go towards the purchase of a gift card from a local restaurant for a KGH professional.

Double whammy – helping nurses + local restaurants

Okaganan Lifestyle Shop Local Gift Cards – Jax and Ryan never cease to amaze us with the different ways they support groups in Kelowna. Whether it is Mamas for Mamas, the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation or the many local businesses they collaborate with, the Okanagan Lifestyle team work to “inject back the generous life force and energy that this land and community gifts us

The OKGN team put together an online directory where you can purchase gift cards for over 50 local businesses including restaurants, fitness classes, retail and more.

Mamas for Mamas: Poverty in our community is going to increase significantly over the next days, weeks and months. The long-term effects can be catastrophic to those on a limited income.

Mamas for Mamas has teamed up with the Central Okanagan Foodbank to keep our most marginalized community members supported through this time of uncertainty. #InThisTogether

Central Okanagan Food Bank – If you have the means, this is a time you can help. As we seek to look after one another and care for our families and community, let’s remember our neighbours in need. Kindly consider continuing to support the 4000+ people a month that the Central Okanagan Food Bank feeds by donating cash or perishable products.

If you, or someone you know, been affected by the COVID-19 virus and are in need of food assistance please call the Central Okanagan Food Bank’s office to book an appointment at: 250-763-7161.

Call your grandparents or an elderly friend – my grandpa has been isolated alone inside his care home for nearly a month. Questions I have asked: What was life like growing up for you? How did you keep food cold in the summer? When did the farm get full electricity? What was life like living through the war and Great Depression? Do you have any big things you wish you did differently? Are you scared of dying? Did you have a favourite stage of life? What is your advise to me for my life?

Quote from a podcast: “Why, it seems, does it always have to take a crisis, particularly ones that involves loss of life and great suffering for us to realize we truly need each other and need to come together to put our collective well being over individual interests. I hope it won’t always take that.” – Vivek Murthy
