Staying Healthy While Isolating

kelowna concerts & events 2019

Maybe you have already found your health and wellness routine and simply wanting to add a little spice in your workout – change it up a little bit.

Or, you could be like me who gets amped up for things like new years resoluions and then falls off after a week of going full tilt.

Regardless, doing something is better than nothing and below we have a few ideas that have been helping with our mental state.

Online Zoom Class with Roz Huber: Roz is one of our really good friends who is doing zoom classes online for free (by donation). She is one of the raddest gals we know – mindfulness + badass motivator + fun, smiles and laughs – who throughout the year hosts yoga classes, retreats to relax at lakeside chalets, charity fundraisers and more.

Here is this week’s schedule for Roz:

Monday 830am – everything (full bod sweat)

Tuesday 930am – core + coffee (core work followed by coffee + a chat together!)

Tuesday 530pm – flow + chill (yoga + relaxation)

Wednesday 830am – twigs + cheeks (legs + glutes)

Thursday 930am – sweating + core (cardio + core)

Thursday 530pm – flow + chill (yoga + relaxation)

Friday 830am – fuzion (yoga + light weights)

And here’s the link for all of them: https://zoom.us/j/936897801

If you are struggling with exercise or your health right now…

First, you likely rarely ever hear this: lower your expectations for yourself. I think this is important always, but especially now.

In everyday life people often go from one extreme to the other, and then have their new goal come screeching to a halt after one week. Go from no gym, to 7 days a week. Drinking every weekend to no alcohol cold turkey. Eating whatever you want to a restricted “diet”….

In times like this when there are external stresses on the mind and body we are operating at about 50% mental and emotional energy – our capacity is diminished due to our new external realities and all that goes along with it (uncertainty of everything: finances, health, how long are we living in isolation.)

So, if you are someone who is struggling with staying committed to anything “BIG” right now, let’s get back to the health basics. Here are some ideas:

  • Do 10 push up every time you go to the fridge (this is also partially conditioning myself to not go to the fridge to procrastinate).
  • Do 10 squats each time after you go to the washroom
  • Walk 30 minutes per day. Do it at the start of the day when you would typically be on your way with the kids to school or work.
  • Get outside to one of the parks for some sunlight each day.
  • Eat a vegetable or fruit every day.

Hammer those home every day and you will be good to go. We are in this for the long haul, so that friend who is taking up Muay Thai, learning piano, started painting and training to be a yoga instructor might burn out… and they also cope differently than than you.

Chill out – start with simple.
